Sharing Life's Simple Rewards of Homeschooling

Homeschool Rewards Zone brings you the latest additions to one family's rewarding experiences of homeschooling simply.

Issue #006 ~ December 2009

Annette went to Homecoming!
Annette was asked to attend homecoming by her friend, Keelya. We had a grand time shopping for her outfit, right down to the shoes. We fixed her hair and off she went. She fit right in and had a blast. It's funny how many seem to think that we are not socialized, but Annette proved it wrong that night! Even though she does not attend the public school nor has many public school friends, she enjoyed going, meeting everyone and they all got along great!

1) Brain Teaser

Although they are spelled differently and have different meanings, many words sound exactly like other words. Him and hymn are an example. Can you think of a word that sounds exactly like each of the following, but is spelled differently? 1. Prints 2. Way 3. Tacks 4. Hall 5. Bow 6. Sale 7. Main 8. Links 9. Hair 10. One

(Answer at bottom.)

2) Homeschool Tip

Take the Brain Teaser one step further and make a "Pear Tree of Pairs" on one of your spare walls. We made paper pears and wrote homophones (homonyms) on them. It was fun trying to think of more pairs, oftentimes coming up in conversation prompting us to write them down before we forgot them!

3) New Pages Added

Field Trip Ebook - Is finished! We never thought it would be 38 pages long, but it is!

Loving Discipline Methods - If you are looking for some great discipline advice, ask Kristina! She has some very good suggestions that I wish I had known when my kids were little.

How to Home School My Child - This page is for anyone with questions about homeschooling...anything goes! Two great questions have already been submitted, one about socialization and the other about taking that first "Homeschool Step".

4) Terrific Contributions From Visitors Like You!

Every month we will share the best visitors' pages submitted the month before. We appreciate everyone's input, but there are some that really shine. My family votes on the best of the best. Here are this month's top picks (in no particular order):

Best Children's Author - Retired teacher, Jan from Valley Springs, CA, has read many a book. Discover her favorite author.

Pros and Cons
My Own Experiences - Maria from Lucknow, ON, Canada gives her honest testimony of why she homeschools.

Kids Won't Get Sick - Marley from Wisconsin really likes that her daughter tends to stay healthy!

The Quiet Man - Find out why Susan from Wisconsin enjoys this oldie along with 3 other recommendations you'll find in her post.

5) # Visitors in November

We thought it would be kinda fun to let you know just how many of you are visiting the site each month. Last month finished out with 2,462 new visitors! Welcome!

Until next month, may you experience many homeschool rewards,
