December 13, 2010
Homeschool Rewards Zone brings you the latest additions to one family's rewarding experiences of homeschooling simply.
1) Book Nook
When the kids were little, we ordered a number of things from the Dover Catalog. They carry a huge variety of items besides books, including educational coloring books, paper dolls, and kits for making all sorts of things. You will want to check their Bargain Bin from time to time for additional savings.
Do you have a favorite home school book? If you do, let us all know!
2) Brain Teaser
Correct this sentence: "A yoke of oxen is plowing the field and a yolk of egg is white."
(Answer at bottom.)
3) Helpful Homeschool Hints
Amy emailed me with these chore suggestions. They are so good that I wanted you all to be the first to try them before I get them on the site. Enjoy, and thanks Amy!
An idea to make chore charts reusable is to print them normally with names (and days if applicable) and slip them into sheet protectors. The kids can cross off the chore when they finish it using a dry erase marker. (Use dry erase markers only for this purpose as it is not fun cleaning dry erase off things where it does not erase!) Then at the end of the day (or they can do it at the beginning of the day) the list is wiped clean. The list can be on the fridge or for multiple kids in a binder on the counter.
Also, there are commercially available chore charts for your pre-reader with pictures of a broom or wash cloth. But I have found that a little more effort-taking photos of the child doing the desired task-is significantly more meaningful to the kiddos!
4) New Pages Added

Answer to Brain Teaser
The only mistake in the sentence is that egg yolks are yellow, not white!
