Sharing Life's Simple Rewards of Homeschooling

Homeschool Rewards Zone brings you the latest additions to one family's rewarding experiences of homeschooling simply.

Issue #021 ~February 2011~

1) Book Nook

When I first started homeschooling, I purchased the 4 volume set of Mary Pride's The Big Book of Home Learning. With its four volumes, there is a lot to absorb. There, I gave you fair warning! You should be able to find it through your local library. Get one volume at a time, if you'd prefer, and just page through it. Scan the Table of Contents and glean what catches your eye. I know you'll find something you and your family will enjoy!

Do you have a favorite home school book? If you do, let us all know!

2) Brain Teaser

This year we will experience 4 unusual dates: 1-1-11, 1-11-11, 11-1-11, and 11-11-11

But what's even more interesting, is the number you come up with when you take the last 2 digits of the year you were born and add the age you WILL be this year.

(Answer at bottom.)

3) Helpful Homeschool Hints

There is more to science than reading a book. Purchase a microscope or get a chemistry kit and watch your children learn while having fun! Set them loose in the basement! You no doubt have some sort of electric appliance down there that no longer works. Have them take it apart! You'd be amazed what they can learn. Who knows, they may even fix it for you! :)

4) New Pages Added

I'd like you to meet Marley. She wondered about putting up some pages to help you with saving money! Let's call her our Money Saving Expert. She's working on more ideas for you as we speak. For now, be sure to check out her great ideas for saving money on groceries, utilities, clothing and more! And while your there, be sure to read Jennifer's Be Creative tip!

5) Terrific Contributions From Visitors Like You!

Every month we will share the best visitors' pages submitted the month before. We appreciate everyone's input, but there are some that really shine. My family votes on the best of the best. Here are this month's top picks (in no particular order):

Discipline Q & A

Stay in Bed - Jackie's two-year-old boy won't stay in bed at night. Read Kristina's suggestion and don't miss the great comments by Susan and Amanda near the bottom!

Games

Preschool Games - Miranda reminded me of these great games for our little ones.

Your Math Reviews

Teaching Textbooks - This curriculum seems to have a varied opinion. Thank you Leslie for your input!

Christian Organizations

New York - LEAH - Linda commented on this Christian group in Oswego County, New York.

6) # Visitors in January

We thought it would be kinda fun to let you know just how many of you are visiting the site each month. Last month finished out with 7,566 new visitors! Welcome!

7)Upcoming Events!

Is there something you'd like me to share? Get it to me by the end of the month.

Until next month, may you experience many homeschool rewards,
