1) Book Nook

I asked the children what book to include this month, and they unanimously agreed on an Usborne book. We really like these books, so we (and I mean the children!) are going to feature The Usborne Book of Knowledge this time. You know a good book when the binding has been taped a time or two. And this one is no exception! It has 5 Parts in it, but their favorite was Part 3, How Your Body Works. Usborne is known for their colorful graphics bringing a difficult subject to life. When you put people in boats to explain what red blood cells do or defend a castle from "germs" with "soldiers", how could you little one NOT learn! I think the Eating Machine section may have helped them to be more careful about what they put in their bodies. This book was Emily and Annette's favorite Usborne book. I'll cover Laura's next month.

Do you have a favorite home school book? If you do, let us all know!

2) Brain Teaser

Lisa is Bob's niece. but Bob's sister Alice says Lisa is not her niece. Explain this.

(Answer at bottom.)

3) Helpful Homeschool Hints

D.E.A.R. TIME! This is what I like to call our Read-Aloud Time. It stands for Drop Everything And Read, and that is exactly what we do! After a full morning of math and writing or science (or whatever you're having your children do), reading aloud is a welcome change. Just before lunch, I will read for about 45 minutes or so from a great book. It does not matter if your children are preschool or in high school, everyone loves this time together in a good book. You will, too! Try it!

4) New Pages Added
Our latest addition you'll find near the middle of our Homeschool Rewards Home Page. If you have Facebook, and enjoy the website, I would love to keep in touch with you through Facebook, too! Just click the "Like" button to keep in touch on Facebook.

Wassup? - Don't forget to drop by to see what's new in our family!

5) Terrific Contributions From Visitors Like You!

Every month we will share the best visitors' pages submitted the month before. We appreciate everyone's input, but there are some that really shine. My family votes on the best of the best. Here are this month's top picks (in no particular order):

Homeschool Q & A
Grade School Costs - When someone asked what the typical cost for teaching 3rd grade was, we had a number of Moms reply! Check out their answers and/or leave a comment of your own!

Discipline
Hitting & Throwing Food - Kristina always knows exactly how to respond to Moms troubled with discipline questions. Read how she helped Rachel with her 16 month old son. And while there, why not ask her a question of your own?!

6) # Visitors in April

We thought it would be kinda fun to let you know just how many of you are visiting the site each month. Last month finished out with 4,587 new visitors! Welcome!

7)Upcoming Events!

4th Annual Home Ed. Conference in Disneyland -

Plan a vacation to California Sept. 8-11 and attend the conference, too! Here are the details: http://www.notbacktoschooldays.com/

Until next month, may you experience many homeschool rewards,
Diane
