Yellow River Game Ranch

by April
(Lilburn, GA USA)

When I was in the first grade, my class took a trip to the Yellow River Game Ranch located near Stone Mountain Georgia in Lilburn. It was a fantastic learning experience. Because it was so etched in my mind, I have taken my own children many times.

It is an outdoor petting zoo and is home to General Lee, a local famous groundhog who is known for predicting the coming of spring. Admission is reasonable and there are many different animals to see and touch. The staff is so helpful and they love to tell stories about the animals.

Children get the chance to see firsthand these animals in their natural world. You can purchase little snacks for the animals out of gumball machines.

It was a very pleasant experience. I advise going in spring so it does not get too hot. This particular location was chosen because it was so close to the school and it is a very kid friendly environment. There are rabbits, goats, birds, donkeys, miniature horses and peacocks. The animals are so beautiful!

Even though the Atlanta Zoo isn't far away, compared to the Zoo, the prices are much more feasible and the crowds aren’t as large.
