Joey Strapped to a Backboard

Joey Strapped to a Backboard

Volunteers were needed at Pueblo Community College where my oldest daughter Nichole's EMT Basic class was held. They needed volunteers to bring in their children so they could practice taking vitals from children and infants. We had a really awesome time. My youngest son, Joey, even let them strap him to the backboard and be put onto a gurney. My youngest daughter, Sammy, wanted no part of that, but she did let them take her vitals. If you want to see more pictures of our trip, check out my blog at: http://www.raekaye.com/2009/04/18/our-field-trip/

The college also has tours available if groups want to set one up. We went on a tour of the school last fall. We were able to see and even interact in several areas. When we went to the shop classroom, the kids got to test out a robotic arm trying to stack blocks. We also saw the automotive, aviation, and nursing departments as well. The nursing department was really cool because they have anamatronic dummies that do most everything a human body does and an ambulance set up just like a real one.

So a great place to check out for a field trip is your local community college or university.

I have been surfing online for more than 3 hours today, yet I by no means found any attention-grabbing article like yours. You really make it appear so easy with your presentation.

Volunteering!
by: Anonymous

That is a great idea. I would imagine area colleges, nursing homes, hospitals, etc. would always be on the look-out for volunteers of one sort or another.
