How Many Hours Per Day?

I saw on the A Beka website that they suggest 4 hours per day with DVDs plus seat work. My question is, how long does the seat work take each day?

Also, with the DVDs, do you have to follow a traditional school-year schedule or can you go year-round?

Jamie's Reply:

The seat work (e.g. science report, research paper, spelling words, vocabulary words--in other words homework) takes about 1 hour per day. So, when we start by 8 a.m. we're usually finished by 1 or 1:30 p.m. That's including our lunch break!

You will find this in the Abeka Academy DVD For Homeschool Guide: "Return all student course work within 10 months but no less than 6 months." You have a deadline with the DVD's because it's accredited. I think they do that to keep you on track. So, no you will not be able to do the Abeka DVD Program year round.

Thanks for your great questions!
