Sharing Life's Simple Rewards of Homeschooling

Homeschool Rewards Zone brings you the latest additions to one family's rewarding experiences of homeschooling simply.

Issue #003 ~ September 2009

School's in Full Swing
School started once again here! Laura and Emily are back at college (well, they're still living at home) and Annette and Garrett are sitting at their desks as I write this. We've been freezing corn and pickling cumcumbers...hope you've been harvesting good things from your garden, too!

1) Brain Teaser

There are many words in the English language which sound exactly alike, but have different meanings and spellings. These are called homonyms. How many of these sound-alike words can you figure out?:

1. I come in bright colors- lavender, yellow or red; but I'm also something you use when you bake bread.

2. I'm a certain type of fruit, either yellow or green that grows on a tree; but if you put two together, you'll have just one of me.

3. I'm something you use when you row in a boat; yet I'm also an element that's too heavy to float.(Answers at bottom.)

2) Quick Tip/Book of the Month

Now that school is underway, I recommend you write down the curriculum you're using for each grade. I found my old list from Laura and Emily very helpful when pulling books off the shelf for Annette and Garrett this year. Having a list of subjects and curriculum will also help you to make that necessary high school transcript when the time comes. And believe me, that time comes all too quickly.

3) New Pages Added

Annette and I have been busy putting together an e-book. So, we've only added one page this month. But it's a fun one...all about your favorite movies!

Top Movie Reviews - Is there a movie you've seen that others should see, too? Take a minute to share it with the rest of us.

4) Terrific Contributions From Visitors Like You!

Every month we will share the best visitors' pages submitted the month before. We appreciate everyone's input, but there are some that really shine. My family votes on the best of the best. Here are this month's top picks (in no particular order):

Games
Learning Vocabulary Fun - Kerry from North Carolina found a website that has sharpened her vocabulary. Want to know what it is?

Movie Reviews
The Ten Commandments Movie - Beth from Maine discovered that this movie brings the Bible alive. It will for you, too.

The Ron Clark Story - LV from Georgia thought this movie would benefit other homeschoolers. Find out why...

Pros and Cons of Homeschooling
Control The Curriculum - Jennifer from Malibu, CA found the perfect learning environment for her son.

5) # Visitors in August

We thought it would be kinda fun to let you know just how many of you are visiting the site each month. The month of July finished out with 2,273 visitors! Welcome!

Until next month, may you experience many homeschool rewards,
Diane
