Can my adult daughter homeschool her 2 younger brothers in my home if she doesn't live with us?

Reply from Diane:

You would need to contact your state's Department of Instruction.

Why can't she? It would be the same if your kid was taking an online class or co-op class. However, you as the parent have to 'manage' the instruction.

Reply from Diane: She maybe can! Here in Wisconsin the law states: "Home-based private educational program" means a program of educational instruction provided to a child by the child's parent or guardian or by a person designated by the parent or guardian. Over our years of homeschooling, I know of no one, other than the parent, who actually homeschooled their children (other than the occasional extra-curricular class). But, it appears as though in Wisconsin anyone could homeschool your child as long as that person is someone designated by the parent. Other states may be different, requiring direct parental involvement. Check with your state or hslda.org just to be sure.
