Sharing Life's Simple Rewards of Homeschooling

Homeschool Rewards Zone brings you the latest additions to one family's rewarding experiences of homeschooling simply.

Issue #018 ~November 2010~

1) Book Nook

Scholastic News is a magazine with current events for children. (They were called "Weekly Readers" when I was a kid.) Grandma ordered these for the kids and they liked them...still do! Marley, my "site buddy" shares her experience ordering it:

Scholastic, e-mailed me back saying "The only way you can get their catalog and get certain deals is if you are a teacher. That being stated, a teacher is someone who teaches whether it be at a public school, a private school, or a home based school. Since you are a home school teacher you can get the catalog. When you register under school name write Home School. And then your address where you home school. You can either do this online or over the phone. If you are accepted you will get a confirmation e-mail. If your not accepted you can always shop at our online store as a parent at http://store.scholastic.com/ as long as you are a US citizen. They may not have the same books as the catalog or the same deals. Thank you for your interest in Scholastic."

So, I signed up as a teacher and I got a confirmation e-mail saying I was accepted. And I requested a few catalogs. They also sent me an e-mail talking about teacher rewards, if you order a certain amount of books you get a certain amount of points. And the more points get, you can get free stuff. And they also have free printouts and small lesson plans for teachers. I haven't checked out the print outs yet or the small lesson plans, but I plan to in the future. I thought it was nice that they recognized home school parents as teachers too. When some places don't.

Do you have a favorite home school book? If you do, let us all know!

3) Helpful Homeschool Hints

Do you get any of the Public Television shows? We used to watch a number of them throughout the day. We made a chart so that we would know which of our favorites were on when. One of our favorites was Bill Nye the Science Guy!
