Sharing Life's Simple Rewards of Homeschooling

Homeschool Rewards Zone brings you the latest additions to one family's rewarding experiences of homeschooling simply.

Issue #016 ~September 2010~

1) Book Nook

We are sneaking this book in only because the children are taking a German class at the local high school. It's called 501 German Verbs and Annette was excited that I just happened to locate it on my shelf! Because your high school student needs to take a foreign language, you'll be happy to know that Barron's has this book available in a number of other languages. Bitte Schön!

Do you have a favorite home school book? If you do, let us all know!

2) Brain Teaser

Can you fill in the nine digits, from 1 to 9, in place of the question marks below, in such a way that the number formed by the first three when considered side by side will be one third of the last three, and the central three digits will be the result of subtracting the first three from the last three? This will take some time and a lot of figuring, but try your best before looking. ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

(Answer at bottom.)

3) Helpful Homeschool Hints

With the start of the school year, we though you'd like to know about a magazine that Grandma ordered every year for the children. It's Scholastic Magazine and does a nice job of keeping your student up on current events. I remember when I was in school, it was called the Weekly Reader! How many of you remember that one?! Anyway, the magazine comes out for different ages. Give them a call and order one for your children, you'll be glad you did! Here's their number: 1-800-SCHOLASTIC

4) New Pages Added
Our latest addition you'll find near the middle of our Homeschool Rewards Home Page. If you have Facebook, and enjoy the website, I would love to keep in touch with you through Facebook, too! Just click the "Like" button to keep in touch on Facebook.

Wassup? - We have not added anything to this page, but I can share "wassup"! Tuesday night German class has been canceled, so Annette and Garrett are taking them daily at the high school. Same teacher, just a different location. They are doing well while getting a taste for what it is like to be in the public school. I'll keep you posted on their progress...

Emily started back at college and Laura is working full time with a financial planner and really likes it.

On a sad note, we had to put our much loved dog, Liberty, of 15 years down last week. She gave us all joy. We have pictures of her on the site at either the 4 H Dog Show or on the Dog Games For Kids page. She was a great dog!

5) Terrific Contributions From Visitors Like You!

Every month we will share the best visitors' pages submitted the month before. We appreciate everyone's input, but there are some that really shine. My family votes on the best of the best. Here are this month's top picks (in no particular order):

Answer to Brain Teaser

The numbers should be arranged in this order: 2 1 9 4 3 8 6 5 7. This places the nine digits in such an order that the first three form the number 219, which is one third of the last three (657), and the center three (438) is the result of subtracting the first three from the last three.
